Before the real start of the European domain names, there was a special, inititial phase: the so called "sunrise period". The first phase of the sunrise period started on December 7 th 2005 and the second phase started on February 7 th 2006.

Sunrise period
 
During the sunrise period which consists of two phases, everybody who thinks he has good reasons to have a claim to a certain domain name, can make an application.

In the first phase (starting on December 7 2005) applications can be made for domain names corresponding to a registered trademark.

In the second phase (starting on February 7 2006) applications can be made for domain names corresponding to company names and unregistered trademarks.

Domain names for which an application has been submitted during the sunrise period, will remain blocked until the application has been traited and the domain name has been adjudged. If the application is denounced, the domain name will be released.

Submit an application
 
The sunrise period has been termined on April 6 th 2006.
Right now it is no longer possible to submit a sunrise application.
